Privacy Policy
Your privacy is important to us. It is PrivateWhisper's policy to respect your privacy regarding any information we may collect from you through our app, PrivateWhisper.
Information We Collect
We collect only the information that is necessary to provide the app's core functionality.
This may include:
- User Content — Audio recordings and related data that you choose to upload for transcription or processing. Audio data is processed solely to provide the requested functionality and is not used for advertising or tracking purposes.
- Identifiers — An app-generated identifier (such as a UUID) used to enable core functionality such as usage limits, billing, and service operation. This identifier does not directly identify you in the real world.
- Contact Information — An email address, if you choose to provide one, used only to deliver app-related functionality (for example, sending a completed recording or notification).
- Purchase Information — Information related to in-app purchases or subscriptions, as required to provide access to paid features.
How We Use Information
We use collected information only to:
- Provide and operate the app's features
- Process audio and return results requested by the user
- Enforce usage limits and subscriptions
- Deliver requested notifications or results
- Maintain security and prevent abuse
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or tracking across apps or websites.
Data Retention
We retain information only for as long as necessary to provide the requested service and comply with legal obligations. Audio data is processed transiently and is not retained beyond what is required for processing and delivery.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties for advertising or tracking purposes.
We may share data only when:
- Required to provide the requested service (for example, processing infrastructure)
- Required by law or legal process
Third-Party Services
PrivateWhisper may rely on third-party services strictly to provide app functionality. These services are not permitted to use your data for their own advertising or tracking purposes.
Website Cookies and Analytics
The sections above describe how we handle data inside the PrivateWhisper macOS application. Our marketing website (privatewhisper.app) uses a small set of third-party cookies and similar technologies to understand how visitors find and use the site, and to measure the effectiveness of our advertising.
What we use.The website loads Google's tag manager (gtag.js, provided by Google LLC and Google Ireland Limited) configured with our Google Ads account. This allows us to:
- Measure conversions from our advertising campaigns — i.e. understand which ads led to a purchase. The Stripe Checkout Session ID is used as the transaction identifier; we do not transmit your name, email address, or payment details to Google.
- Build remarketing audiences, which means you may see PrivateWhisper ads on other websites and Google services after visiting us.
- Understand basic, aggregated traffic patterns (page views, referrers, approximate region).
Your consent (Consent Mode v2).When you first visit the website you'll see a cookie banner. We follow Google's Consent Mode v2:
- Until you click Accept, no advertising or analytics cookies are written to your browser. Google may receive anonymous, "cookieless" pings (with no client identifiers) so basic conversion modelling can still work, but no information that identifies you is collected.
- If you click Accept, the Google Ads cookies are enabled and your choice is stored locally in your browser (localStorage key
pw-consent-v1) so you don't have to choose again on every visit. - If you click Reject, no Google cookies are set and your choice is stored the same way.
Withdrawing consent. You can change your decision at any time by clearing your browser's site data for privatewhisper.app — the banner will reappear on your next visit. You can also opt out of personalised advertising directly with Google at adssettings.google.com, and you can read Google's own privacy practices at policies.google.com/privacy.
What we do not do. We do not sell your data. We do not use cookies for cross-app tracking inside the desktop application — the application itself remains fully offline as described above.
External Links
Our app may contain links to external websites or services that are not operated by us. We have no control over the content or privacy practices of those third parties and cannot accept responsibility for their policies.
Your Choices
You may choose not to provide certain information; however, some features of the app may not function without it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Continued use of the app after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
Contact Us
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or how your data is handled, you may contact us through the app or via our official support channels.
